本日は、11月26日（土）に開催されたグローバルコース（GL）*・アドバンスドラーナーコース(AL)*合同プレゼンテーションコンテストをご紹介したいと思います。中学のGLとALから選ばれた12名がプレゼンテーションの出来栄えを競い合います。中学のGL・AL全生徒と保護者の方、そして審査員であるネイティブの先生と高校GL生徒が見守る中、どの生徒も素晴らしい発表をしてくれました。

＊AL：海外に長く滞在していたわけではないが、英語がとても得意な生徒のためのクラス

審査員が口を揃えて最優秀賞者を選ぶのが難しかったと言うほどのハイレベルな戦いを制したのは、なんと１年生！ALとGL別に最優秀賞を出したのですが、AL最優秀賞はI. N.さんが受賞しました。Iさんは、将来の夢についてとても生き生きと話してくれました。全身を使って、元気いっぱいに夢について話すIさんの姿に、見ている人たちはどんどん元気をもらい、笑顔になっていったように見えました。最近は生徒会にも立候補するなど何でも積極的なIさん。さらにこれからどんな活躍をしてくれるのだろうと楽しみになる生徒さんです。私も精一杯サポートしようと思います。

GLは、K. E.さんが最優秀賞を受賞しました。物語を書くのが小さい頃から好きだというKさん。Kさんの魅力は流暢な英語だけでなく、その表現力にもあると思います。スライドを見なくてもKさんの話の内容が頭の中でありありと思い浮かぶようなKさんの話に、聞いている人はどんどん惹きつけられていったように見えました。

今年のコンテストでは、高校GL生徒が選出する賞も用意しており、4年生特別賞を受賞したのが、これまた１年生、I. H.君(GL)。海洋生物学者になりたいというI君。なぜ海洋生物学者になりたいと思ったのかから始まり、海洋生物学者はどんな仕事で、将来その仕事を通じてどんなことをしたいのかを具体的に話してくれました。ここまで将来の夢について明確な考えを持ち、言語化できる中学１年生は中々いないと思います。加えて、スライドにほとんど文字を書いてない上、原稿も読まないで、日常会話のような自然なトーンで約3分間話せることもI君の凄さかと思います。天晴ですね。

そして、唯一１年生に一矢報いたのが、2年生のS. A.君（GL）。高校GL生徒による5年生特別賞を受賞しました。S君は、楽観主義と悲観主義について大変分かりやすく説明してくれた上で、楽観主義が健康にどのような影響を与えてくれるのかを客観的・具体的に話してくれました。アカデミックな内容でありながら、堅苦しさを感じさせないという点で秀逸なスピーチだったと思います。

1. I.N. さん　（AL最優秀賞）

私は最初、GL＆ALプレゼンコンテストという名前を聞いて、とても面白そうだと感じた反面、選ばれたら完璧にしなければいけないという不安が込み上げてきました。その不安が的中し、私は1年ALのクラス代表に選ばれました。その日からイントネーションやジェスチャーなど、沢山練習をして完璧に発表できるよう備えました。
リハーサルではGLのクラスメートと仲良くなれました。知らない人が沢山いる中で、話し相手ができたことは、リハーサルの発表でも気軽にこなせたので、とても良い影響をもたらしてくれたと思いました。
　コンテスト本番、私は予期もしていなかった一番手だったので、とても緊張しました。緊張していた雰囲気をなんとかしたいと思い、自分で楽しめるプレゼンを心掛けたことで、練習どおりの発表することができました。
　コンテスト後の授賞式では、自分の名前が呼ばれたとき、一瞬間呆気に取られてしまいました。他の発表者方のプレゼンも素晴らしく、自分が受賞できるなどとは思っても見なかったからです。沢山練習した成果が報われて、とても感動しました。
コンテストも終わり、緊張が残りつつある中、クラスメートなどが「おめでとう」と言ってくれたので、受賞できて良かった、そして次のコンテストも今回のプレゼンコンテストで学んだことを活かし、クラスメートに負けじと頑張ろうと思いました。

The presentation contest was such a new and fun experience! Apart from being super afraid of talking in front of people, I’ve never presented in front of a large crowd in my whole life, so when I first heard that we were going to do a presentation, my heart dropped down to my stomach. I felt an immense amount of pressure since I was raised in America for 12 whole years. English is practically the only thing I can do right, and I didn’t want to fail no matter what. Despite this, I actually had such a spectacular and exciting time! It would truly not have been possible if it hadn’t been for everyone who supported me. Firstly, when we were picking competitors, everyone supported each other and provided constructive criticism as well as encouraging comments to another. It honestly felt like we were all siblings. The teachers were just as supportive, of course. All of the teachers are very creative when it comes to teaching, so I don’t remember a single time when I was sick of creating my presentation. Even when the time came to pick, not one person was sour towards another. It was so endearing to see everyone give pep talks to help prevent them from feeling upset. My friends and I were like this as well, of course! Lastly, during the competition, I experienced nothing but pure happiness and laughter. I even made a new friend! I felt so scared and was practically shivering in fear, but my friends did their best to help me feel better. Everyone did so amazingly, and I was astonished at how advanced everyone was. Each presentation was unique and entertaining. I especially liked the first few presentations. I felt so inspired by how bright they were, despite probably being in the same state as me before they presented. They were like sunlight, and thanks to that sunlight, I was able to move forward and strive to become at least as bright as the moon. And what do you know? I succeeded! And I know for a fact I wouldn’t have been able to do it if not for the people around me. I never knew that expressing my feelings to other people through a slide show could be so fun.

 

 

1. I.H. 君　(4年生特別賞)

　僕はプレゼンテーションコンテストをしてとてもいい体験になりました。これは僕が帰国子女だからです。僕は少し前に日本に帰ってきました。心配なことはたくさんあったのですが、その中で一番心配だったのが、英語力を保てるかです。また、英語を使える機会があるかでした。

　宝仙学園では、プレゼンテーションコンテストなど英語を使う機会がたくさんあります。また、このプレゼンテーションコンテストをして驚いたことがあります。それはプレゼンテーションをするステージです。もちろん違うところもありますが、大きなスクリーンや、プレゼンテーションをする土台など、似ているところがたくさんあって、落ち着いてプレゼンテーションができました。これからも、機会があったらどんどんプレゼンテーションに参加していきたいと思います。

The presentation contest for the Global and AL programme motivated the students and allowed them to come together and demonstrate their skills. Overall, the presentations were well thought out and captivated the interest of the audience with a variety of topics ranging from problems of deforestation to how optimism can have an impact on our health. In the modern world it is increasingly important to be able to convey ideas in a succinct and concise way. The students presenting certainly demonstrated these skills. Congratulations to all for a fabulous event. Well done everybody!

This year’s presenters were very impressive across the board, and the best ones were out-of-this-world good. Making a choice amongst them was surely a difficult task because the best ones were good in both similar and different ways. Congratulations to everyone for their outstanding work. I’m sure they were very inspiring to their classmates in the audience, all of whom will likely do an even better performance in their future presentations.

As always, the presentation contest was a great opportunity for Global students to experience speakers from other grades. After weeks of preparation, most students were at least somewhat familiar with the presentations of their classmates. In the contest, however, there were many pleasant surprises as students learned just how thoughtful and interesting their juniors and seniors could be! Great job everybody!

This year’s presentation contest was absolutely amazing! Right from the start, opening with a bubbly performance, the first contestant set the mood for the afternoon.

Future life dreams, saving the planet, how to live with your baby brother, and veganism were amongst the topics chosen by the students.

With such a level of fluency, it was hard for the judges to choose a winner for each category!
