Do you know about “child labour”? It refers to children who work almost for free.
Look at this picture. This is the number of children who do child labour. From 2000 to 2016, the amount of child labour decreased. But in 2020, there was more child labour than in 2016. Do you know the reason?
It is said that one of the reasons is COVID-19. Because of COVID-19, their parents lost their jobs. Also, schools were closed because of COVID-19.
Surprisingly, about 10% of children are working in the world. Isn’t this problem related to us? Of course, it is. There are a lot of products which are made by child labour all around us. For example, some soccer balls are made by them.
Look at this photo. He is sewing a soccer ball.
Look at the next photo. She started sewing soccer balls at 5 years old. Her name is Sonia.
She said in a press conference “Please use the soccer balls which are made by people with protected human rights.” Children should get education.
Do you know the raw ingredients of chocolate? The answer is cacao.
This is a boy who gathers cacao. How much does it weigh? It is about 250~1000g. He is carrying more than 15 cacaos, so he carries at least 2750g. Will buying these products lead to child labour? No, it won’t.
Let me tell you about the Fair Trade mark. This is a mark which tells us that the people who made this product are having their human rights protected. I think what we can do is to buy products with the Fair Trade mark and turn on eye to child labour. I hope all of the children’s human rights will be protected and they can go to school soon.
Thank you for listening.

Of course, I am glad to get an award. But I think it was great to tell everyone about child labour. I would like everyone to not only know that children who are the same age as us are working, but also think about how to solve the problem together.

About the presentation. I was kinda nervous before doing it but I was really confident. I practiced a lot and it was perfect. After I’ve finished, I didn’t care about winning. I said to my self that I’ve done my best. The other presentations were so good that I thought I’m not so good at English. But apparently the teacher’s let me win. I don’t really know why the teacher’s chose me, but I was really happy. Thank you for all the support.
